Blast from the Past with Perseverance

Perseverance's beer garden

Friday night, and 90’s music is blaring. No, this isn’t a flashback, but rather a blast from the past. Perseverance Hotel’s themed nineties night has become popular with the 18-25 year old demographic, with the entry queue extending down the block.

With free entry, and $5 basic spirits from 8-10pm Friday, the dance floor and bar areas are extremely busy. Word to the wise, arriving early is key, otherwise you will end up standing in line at the bar for up to 10 minutes and risk being squished against a wall.

During the warmer seasons, Perseverance boasts one of the best beer gardens in Brunswick Street, with plenty of seating and a smoking area. During the cooler months, the garden is closed, but the seating is moved inside alongside the bar.

The dance floor is situated next to a series of leather couches and TVs, so for those more interested in sporting events are also able to have a good time, no dodgy dance moves required.

Perseverance is one of the better Friday night hangouts, with the music and crowd likeable and carefree, and a good atmosphere, aided by the free entry and cheap drinks.

So, if you’re after a cheap, yet fun night out, Perseverance on Brunswick Street is the place for you!

Where can I find it?
Perseverance is located in Fitzroy at 196 Brunswick Street, on the corner of Moor Street.

How do I get there?
Perseverance can be reached by public transport. If departing from the city CBD, catch a train to Parliament Station (most lines pass through the city loop), then catch a tram (route 86) to Nicholson Street, with a short 10 minute walk from there.

Parking is limited depending on the night, but Brunswick Street and surrounding streets offer parking spots in the street.

When can I get there?
Perseverance is open Thursday 5pm – 2am, Friday-Saturday 5pm-3am and 12pm-11pm Sundays.

How much will it cost?
Perseverance is free entry, with special drink offers each night.

What do I wear?
Most of the crowd came dressed in neat casual, however some people did dress up. Remember, this is a pub like hangout, so sequins and ten-inch heels will look out of place.
