Club review: Poof Doof

Poof Doof is one of the most popular nightclubs in Melbourne among the gay scene. Located within 100 metres of Southern Cross station, between Collins and Bourke streets, it is close to trams, trains and a taxis for the ride home.

Music in this club is a decent mix of House and RnB, with nights reserved especially for RnB. The dance floor is large and spacious, and bars are located at the end of the dancefloor, and near the restrooms. The club is so popular that there is barely any where to dance on a busy night.

For those smokers out there, there is a special area reserved especially for you. However, the area is small, tiny in fact especially compared to the areas at almost all the other gay clubs around Melbourne, such as The Peel, DnM and Greyhound. Similar to the dance floor, on a busy night, there is no room to smoke, let alone to move your arms in the smoking action.

The cloak room is located near the door, available for use for anyone with a small fee. However, the clockroom fills up quickly, and there is a very long wait to get to the counter, whether you are arriving or leaving. I have also been told it closes for arrivals at 1am.

Entry to the club is on the expensive side, ranging from $15 for those on a guestlist, to $20 for regular people. According to one patron, the expensive entry is worth the trouble because "this club is the best one in Australia."

Poof Doof is currently selling tickets for a major event on Melbourne Cup Eve,  tickets can be bought at www.thebottomend.com.au, where it will be open until 12pm on Cup day.
